How Solar Works

Sunlight in, electricity out

When sunlight (photons) hits the silicon in the photovoltaic cells, it knocks electrons free from the atoms, creating a flow of electricity. Each panel is made up of anywhere from 32 to 96 cells, all linked together to power your home.

  • 1
Panels capture sunlight — photovoltaic cells convert photons into DC electricity all day long.
  • 2
Inverters convert the power — DC is efficiently converted to the AC electricity your home uses.
  • 3
Your home runs on solar — excess energy ties back to the grid or charges your battery for later.

Solar Q&A

Have a solar question?

Ask about batteries, APS, SRP, TEP, financing, or what a system might look like for your home.

FAQs

Questions, answered

A typical solar array will last for 25 to 35 years. If your roof will need work within that window, it's best to address any roof replacement before installation so you won't need to remove and reinstall the system later.

Yes — your system still generates power on cloudy days, just at a reduced rate. Our installers optimize panel placement to capture as much sunlight as possible year-round.

In states like Arizona and Texas, solar panels typically qualify for a property tax exemption — so you can add value to your home without adding to your tax bill.

Available loan partners include Dividend Finance, ICCU Credit Union, Sungage Financial and Credit Human. Lease options include Palmetto LightReach and a Participate Energy prepaid lease with a 30% program incentive. Availability, approval and terms vary by homeowner and project.

The physical installation is often completed in a matter of days. The complete project takes longer because design, financing, site assessment, HOA review, permitting, utility approval, inspection and permission to operate all have separate timelines.
